Wastage Rules of Thumb

  • 5%Straight Grid Laying: Minimal diagonal cutting on rectangular rooms.
  • 10%Standard Recommended: Accounts for doors, columns, bathroom fittings, and tile skirting.
  • 15%Herringbone or Diagonal: High cutting frequency along borders and odd-shaped rooms.

How to Calculate Tile Quantities for Floors & Walls

01

Measure Net Area

Measure Length and Width in feet or meters. For L-shaped rooms, split the floorplan into smaller rectangles and sum the totals.

02

Add Cutting Wastage

Multiply your net area by 1.10 (for 10% wastage allowance) to determine the gross tile coverage required.

03

Determine Box Count

Divide gross area by square feet per box (e.g. 15.50 sq. ft. for 600×1200mm) and always round up to the nearest whole box.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a 10% wastage allowance recommended when ordering tiles?+

Tile installation requires perimeter cutting, cornering around doors/fixtures, and L-cuts around columns. A 10% allowance ensures you do not run short mid-project. It also preserves a few spare tiles from the same production batch/shade for future repairs.

How many pieces of 600x1200mm porcelain tiles come in one box?+

Standard Morbi manufacturing packaging for 600×1200mm porcelain tiles is 2 pieces per box, covering 1.44 sq. meters or approximately 15.50 sq. feet.

How many boxes of tiles fit on a standard wooden pallet for transport?+

For 600×1200mm tiles, a standard pallet accommodates 60 to 64 boxes (approx. 992 sq. ft.). For 800×1600mm slabs, a pallet accommodates 30 to 34 boxes.

Can I order mixed tile sizes in one truckload or shipping container?+

Yes. Cevic provides full truckload (FTL) consolidation across India and mixed container stuffing for export consignments.
